Assessment
Tests are given to identify the student's skill level in English,
Math, ESL and Chemistry. Test scores can meet prerequisites for certain
courses and will help your counselor in recommending the most appropriate
courses to meet your skill levels and educational goals.
Most
of our testing is currently offered on computer.
Computerized placement tests are offered for English, Arithmetic, Beginning
Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Pre-Calculus.
Chemistry
and ESL (both Credit and Non-Credit) testing are currently paper /
pencil tests.
After
being admitted to the college by filing an application and receiving
your GCC I.D.#, you may come to the Assessment Center and talk to a
staff member to determine which tests you need to take. The English,
Math, and Chemistry tests are available on a walk-in
basis. The Credit ESL and Non-Credit ESL placement tests require an
appointment. Appointments must be made during our office hours and
must be done in person in the Assessment Center. Testing schedules
are available at the Center, and on this site.
It
is necessary to have a GCC ID# and a photo ID (Driver's License, GCC
ID Card, Passport, High School ID, Military ID etc. which includes
your picture) in order to take a test in the Assessment Center. (Non-Credit
ESL test does not require a GCC ID# ).
Test
results are returned and placed on the college's computerized registration
system as soon as possible, generally within three working days depending
on the type of test taken and the day of the week etc. The test administrator
will be able to tell you when your results will be ready upon completion
of your exam. Results may be picked up in person at the Assessment
Center, or obtained through a Kiosk or from the Website
