TRACK and FIELD
Tove Berg cemented
her legacy as one of the greatest distance runners in Glendale College
history by winning state championships in the 5000 and 10,000 meters at the
state championship meet at Cerritos College May 16 and 17. She was also
named co-athlete of the meet for her efforts and she earned All-American
honors in both events as did several of her teammates who finished in the
top six of their events.
Berg beat the
heat on Friday to defend the state title she won in 2007 by winning the
10,000 meters in 30 minutes, 40.94 seconds to win the race by more than a
lap. On Saturday, she won her second state title in the meet with a victory
in the 5000 meters and the fourth of her career with a time of 17 minutes,
18.98 seconds. Vivien Wadeck had a solid day as she finished second in the
1500 meters in 4:46.94 and third in the 5000 meters in 18:10.61 to help the
Lady Vaqs to an eighth overall team finish with 41 points. Zitlalic Ley
earned All-American honors with a fifth place finish in the 3000-meter
steeplechase in 11:50.96 and finished ninth in the 5000 meters in 19:42.98.
James Poet earned
All-American honors in the hammer throw with a sixth place finish and a
personal best throw of 49.21 meters. Michael Flowers finished his career as
a Vaqueros with an 11th place finish in the 3000-meters steeplechase in
10:08.85.

`Sophomore
Matt Taoatao capped off an outstanding career as a Vaqueros by being named
the Western State Conference Co-Player of the Year. He was named All-WSC
second team at No. 2 singles but his overall season record and
character helped him earn this top honor. Sophomore Greg Arutyunyan was also
named to the all-WSC second team at No. 4 singles and he and Taoatao teamed
up to be named all conference honorable mention in doubles at the No. 2
spot. Emanuel Haug and Ryan Stanbury were named honorable mention at No. 1
doubles.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
