Dr. Audre Levy, Superintendent/President, gave a presentation on the Midterm Accreditation Report. The report indicates progress towards meeting the visiting Accreditation Team’s recommendations, forecasts where the college will be at the next accreditation and provides a summary of progress on college identified concerns expressed in the self study. The final Midterm Accreditation Report will be presented to the Board for approval on February 12.
Dr. Ron Harlan, Dean, Instructional Services gave an update on the Baja Field Station Construction Project. The current Baja Station serves 100 to 120 students during the spring and summer. The new facility will accommodate 200 to 240 students and the college will be able to lease the facility to other groups. The estimated construction cost is $396,714 to $418,738 with construction ending in May 2008. The Board will vote on the construction expenses at next month’s meeting.
The Board acknowledged the hard work of the team that prepared the Midterm Accreditation report.
The Board welcomed Dr. Dawn Lindsay, Vice President of Instructional Services.
The Board will be holding their annual retreat at the Professional Development Center on February 2.
The Board thanked Ann Ransford and the Office of Communications, Marketing & Foundation for producing a community newsletter which will be mailed to homes next week.
The Bhupesh Parikh Health Sciences & Technology Building and the new Parking Structure are moving along as scheduled.
The GCC Forensics Team received its second set of awards in three weeks winning first place in the Community College Sweepstakes held this past weekend at Cal State University Fullerton.
The Board congratulated the Fire Academy staff on a moving graduation ceremony.
