ACTIONS
On
October 27, 2003, the Board of Trustees approved:
§
A resolution authorizing a lease/purchase agreement with
Municipal Finance Corporation allowing the district to obtain lease purchase
financing for radio equipment, a reclaimed water filtration system and
waterless urinals.
§
The addition of five new courses of study to the official
course offerings: Computer Science/Information Systems 196, Computer
Science/Information Systems 212, Computer Science/Information Systems 166,
Computer Science/Information Systems 280 and Korean 116.
§
The acceptance of funding from the State of California,
Department of Rehabilitation, to support a Workability III Cooperative Project.
The project will allow the GCC Center for Students with Disabilities and the
Van Nuys Foothill District of the Department of Rehabilitation to combine staff
and resources to provide vocational rehabilitation services to DOR clients who
are also enrolled as GCC students.
§
An agreement with Macias, Gini & Company to provide bond
performance audit services for Measure G.
§
Renewal of an agreement with Alcalde & Fay for lobbying
services including advice and counsel with respect to securing the federal
funds for projects.
§
Renewal of an agreement with Patrick McCallum Group for
lobbying services including advocacy services, extended strategic planning and
periodic legislative updates.
§
Change orders increasing the cost of the Science Buildings
Project: general construction by $51,471.66; the New Construction and Remodel
of Science Buildings: drywall/framing/carpentry by $9,055.29; Science Buildings
Project acoustical ceilings by $3,705.94; New Construction and Remodel of
Science Buildings: doors and hardware by $914.25; Science Buildings Project:
electrical by $188,941.40; Science Buildings Project: mechanical/HVAC by
$2,372.53; New Construction and Remodel of Science Buildings: plumbing by
$22,135.14; New Construction and Remodel of Science Buildings: casework by
$10,358.38; New Construction and Remodel of Science Buildings: landscaping by
$172.00 and New Construction and Remodel of Science Buildings: painting by
$13,307.72. Also a change order decreasing the cost of the New Construction and
Remodel of Science Buildings: flooring by $1,293.98.
§
An agreement with the Associated Students for coffee cart
services for two years beginning on January 1, 2004. The specialty coffee cart
services will continue at the current kiosk location.
§
The purchase of radio equipment from Motorola, Inc. for the
Campus Police. The equipment is being purchased through an agreement negotiated
by the City of Glendale. The system is part of the Interagency Communications
Interoperability System (ICIS) which allows public safety personnel of
different jurisdictions to talk between neighboring cities.
§
An agreement with the City of Glendale for softball field
renovations in the amount of $11,848.00. The college uses these city facilities
for women’s softball.
§
An agreement with the Northridge Hospital Medical Center to
use the facility for clinical experience for students in the Glendale College
Nursing Program.
§
An agreement with YWCA Glendale for use of its facilities
for Community Services classes.
§
An agreement with Chevy Chase Baptist Church for use of its
facilities for Continuing Education classes. The college holds Non Credit ESL
classes at the facility.
§
An agreement with the Glendale Presbyterian Church for use
of its facilities to hold Non Credit ESL classes.
§
Pending approval by Guild members, a compensation agreement
between the District and the Guild. The proposal includes a change in benefits,
a 1% reduction to salary schedules A and B and one unit of banked time as
compensation for the one year loan.
§
Tentative agreements (pending approval by CSEA members)
between CSEA and the District on 2003/2004 compensation, agreements other than
2003/04 compensation, Article XX – Leaves of Absence and Hold Over Items. The
compensation proposal includes a .55% salary take back for the 2003/04 fiscal
year, with the District giving the CSEA two additional vested vacation days and
a paid vacation day on Friday, January 2, 2004.
§
The elimination of the monthly 4.5% salary reduction for the
Administrator/Management/Confidential group, effective October 1, 2003. This
will result in a 1.13% salary reduction for the 2003-04 fiscal year, bringing
the group’s pay reduction to a comparable level of the Guild and CSEA. This
agreement will be re-evaluated if the District’s revenues fall below current
estimates.

an overview on the Transfer Center and its programs.
§
The 2003 Distinguished Faculty Award Lecture will take place
on October 30. Professor of Mathematics Gary Massion will speak on
“The Founding Fathers Did Math… Go Figure.” The lecture will take place at noon
in Kreider Hall, with a reception to follow.
§
The Glendale College Patrons Club’s fundraiser will take
place on November 7.
§
Vice
President of Administrative Services Larry Serot was congratulated for his
selection by the California Community College Association of Chief Business
Officials as recipient of the 2003 Walter Star Robie Award for outstanding
achievement.
§
Executive
Vice President of Instruction Steve White and Trustees Armine Hacopian and Ara James
Najarian spoke about their experiences traveling to Armenia as part
of an 18-member delegation from Glendale city government and schools. Dean of
Student Affairs Paul Schlossman also served on the
delegation. Trustee Hacopian presented the college with a book received on the
visit.
§
Save Our Classes Basketball Tournaments will take place on
Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon throughout the month of November.
§
The Board congratulated Tony Tartaglia on his selection as the new
President of the Glendale College Foundation.
