BOARD ACTIONS

 

On November 21, 2005, the Board of Trustees approved:

·         The addition of the following courses to the official college course offerings: Sociology 140 – Introduction to Social Welfare; Speech 190 – Intercollegiate Forensics Practicum; and Spanish 203 – Occupational Spanish for Nursing.

·         The addition of a Network Administrator Certificate to the official college course offerings.

·         The 2006-2007 academic calendar consisting of two five-week summer sessions, two primary semesters and a six-week winter session.

·         The acceptance of grant funds in the amount of $248,000 for the Cimmarusti Science Center’s Teacher Training and Outreach Program for the timeframe of October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2007. The funds are from the 05 Earmark in Senate Appropriations for VIA, HUD Independent Agencies full committee bill and will enable Glendale College to reach out to its surrounding K-12 schools and help them with their science education.

·         An agreement with the County of Los Angeles, Department of Health Services, allowing students from the Glendale College Nursing Program to gain clinical experience at this location.

·         An agreement with Lundgren Management for pre-construction services with respect to the Parking Structure/Elevator Tower and Bridge project in the amount of $17,200.

·         A change order increasing the cost of the Allied Health/Lab Project – Electrical by $27,109.84 for a total contract price of $1,644,109.84. The college will also need to provide $45,261.55 for materials for a modular wiring system.

·         A change order increasing the cost of the Allied Health/Lab Project – Demolition by $8,335.01 for a total contract price of $992,335.01.

·         An agreement with P2S Engineering for an initial engineering feasibility study for the air conditioning of Verdugo Gym in an amount not to exceed $8,000.

·         Amendments to the Collective Bargaining Agreement 2003-2006 between the District and the American Federation of Teachers – Guild Contract and Side Letter Agreements, pending ratification by the Guild membership.

·         An amendment to the 2005-2006 Salary Agreement between the District and the American Federation of Teachers. Approval is contingent upon ratification by the Guild membership.

·         Amendments to the 2003-2006 Collective Bargaining Agreement with the California School Employees Association, Glendale Community College Chapter #76. Approval of the nine separate changes is contingent upon ratification by the CSEA membership.

·         The addition of Step 2 and Step 3 within the Student Assistant V salary schedule.

·         A new class description and salary range for Sr. Student Employment Accounting Clerk.

 

In addition:

·         Thomas Dryden was sworn in to complete the current term of the Student Trustee.

·         Patrick McCallum, Legislative Advocate in Sacramento gave a Legislative Update to the Board of Trustees, discussing such issues as the November election’s impact on California Community Colleges, the Community College Initiative, the Facilities Bond Act of 2006 and Proposition 98 funding.

·         Dr. Leland Hartwell was selected to receive a 2006 Outstanding Alumni Award from the American Association of Community Colleges. The award will be presented to Dr. Hartwell at the 2006 Annual AACC Convention in Long Beach on April 24, 2006.

·         The Patrons Club’s luncheon on Friday, November 4 raised $20,000 for scholarships.

·         Students will have the option of registering for classes online beginning in January.

·         The Board recognized Armineh Dereghishian, the new ASGCC president.

·         The Board recognized the Men's Cross Country Team and Coach Eddie Lopez for their season finish as Western State Conference Champs and Southern California Champs. 

·         The Board recognized the Women's Cross Country Team and Coach Lopez for their finish as Western State Conference Champions and their 3rd place finish at the Southern California Championships held in San Diego

·         The Board recognized the GCC Football Team for winning the Western State Conference Southern Division title.

·         The Board congratulated the GCC Speech Team on their impressive wins at the Ray Dahlin/Griffin Swing Tournaments at Grossmont College this past weekend.

·         The Board recognized the Board of Trustees Advisory Hiring Committee for their work on the Presidential Search and Dr. Vicki Nicholson, chair of the committee, gave a brief update on their progress.

·         The Board congratulated Jane DiLucchio, professor and division chair, on the recent publication of her novel, "Relationships Can Be Murder."
