Edward Karpp, Director, Institutional Research, gave a presentation on the Chancellor’s Office Accountability Report. Dr. Karpp shared preliminary data from the report, which was established under AB1417 to measure college performance on the state’s educational outcome priorities. The first draft was submitted in October and the college will receive a final draft on January 22, 2007. The college will have one month to prepare a self-assessment based on the results. According to the preliminary data, GCC’s numbers are extremely positive when compared to similar colleges.
The Board reviewed a Revision of Board Policy 9340 – Meetings that changes the Order of Business by moving "Communications" ahead of "Finance Reports."
The Board congratulated all of the December 2006 retirees including Steve White, Vice President of Instructional Services. ASGCC will be starting a scholarship in honor of White.
The college received a $10,000 grant from AT&T Foundation to supplement the National Science Foundation Math and Science Transfer, Excellence and Retention Scholarship Program.
The Office of Admissions contacted 25,869 students via an automated telephone blast that reminded them to register for the Spring Semester.
Dr. Dawn Lindsay will assume the position of Vice President of Instructional Services on January 4, 2007.
The Board congratulated the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams on an outstanding year. The Women finished as Western State Conference Champions and Southern California Champions. Both teams qualified for the California State Championships with the Women finishing 2nd in the State. Coach Eddie Lopez received the 'California Community College Cross Country Coach of the Year' 2006 for the women’s program. It was his fourth time being recognized as such.
