BOARD ACTIONS
On September 19, 2006, the Board of Trustees approved:
- A resolution authorizing consolidation of the next Board election with the
City of Glendale election on April 3, 2007.
- An agreement with Alcade & Fay lobbying firm in Washington DC for lobbying
services. The firm will continue to provide advocacy services as well as
extended strategic planning and periodic legislative updates for the 2006-2007
fiscal year at a rate of $5,000 per month.
- A reduction in the enrollment fee from $26 to $20 per semester unit
beginning January 1, 2007.
- Reimbursements to two employees in the amounts of $2,249.44 and $4,148.70,
both in excess of the guidelines set forth in the Purchasing Procedures Manual
In addition:
- Geoffrey Kischuk from Total
Compensation Systems presented an Acturial Study of Retiree Benefits.
- Dr. Cathy Durham, Title V Grant
Director, and Scot Spicer, Associate Dean, Instruction, gave
a presentation on the new Title V grant which begins October 1, 2006. The five
year grant will be used to develop a fully supportive learning community for
GCC’s at-risk freshmen.
- The college received a $200,000 grant from the
Weingart Foundation towards construction of the Health Sciences Building.
- The Board recognized Nidal Kobaissi for
his years of service as CSEA president.
- The Board congratulated the GCC Department of
Nursing and Associate Dean of Allied Health Cynthia Dorroh on
the news that 23 of 33 $1000 Wallis Annenberg Education Scholarships for
Nurses distributed by St. Vincent Medical Center were awarded to GCC students.
The Board also congratulated Dr. Dorroh on her new position as a member of the
Glendale Memorial Hospital Community Board.
- The Board welcomed the new Foundation
president, Olive Warner.
- The Board congratulated the Garfield Campus on
a very successful Open House.
- The Board congratulated Trustee Dr.
Kathleen Burke-Kelly on her appointment as Acting Vice President of
Academic Affairs at LA Mission College.
- A scholarship has been set up in Deirdre
Collins' name through the GCC Foundation.
- The Board welcomed Saodat Aziskhanova
to her new position as CSEA president.
