CalWORKs
The California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs)
program is a Welfare-to-Work Program enacted to assist students who are
currently welfare recipients or who are in transition off of welfare to achieve
long-term self-sufficiency through coordinated student services. The CalWORKs
program facilitates the provision of supportive services that families are
eligible for by collaborating with local county welfare departments. In addition
to receiving cash aid, some of the other benefits available may include funds
for books, supplies, transportation, clothing, and housing as well as referral
for domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health.
The CalWORKs program is committed to help the community obtain the education and
training needed to build basic job skills or upgrade transferable skills for
those seeking immediate employment. The Garfield Campus offers classes and
training that qualify as Welfare-to-Work activities. These include adult basic
education classes, GED and high school diploma, business classes, job readiness
classes, ESL classes, and computer classes. Other additional services available
include job training, on-site childcare, job development, job placement, and
counseling. Call for further information. Hours: Mon-Fri, 8:30 am -
