TIPS FROM THE HELPDESK

E-mail attachments

Most of you know by now not to trust unsolicited e-mail attachments.  Every e-mail attachment is suspect!  Aside from keeping the virus definition files of your virus checking software up to date, the best way to handle e-mail attachments is to assume they contain viruses.

If you need to send an e-mail attachment to someone, you should notify that person before sending him or her the attachment.

If you must routinely send attachments to large groups of people, the best way to handle this is to upload the attachment to a web space and provide a
pointer to the attachment in your email.  It is a fairly simple process.  Please call the Help Desk if you need assistance.

When buying a digital camera you should consider:

  • Resolution— how sharp, clear and big are the pictures.
A good rule of thumb would be:

640x480 NTSC television resolution

2 megapixels for 4x6 prints or1024x768

3 megapixels for 5x7 prints or 1280x960

4 megapixels for 8x10 prints or 1600x1200

  •  Capacity— How many pictures the camera can hold.

  • Size— How large and heavy is the camera.

  • Features— What special abilities the camera has and what effects it can produce.
