CFT endorses Councilmember
Frank Quintero for Assembly
by Mona Field, Social Sciences Division

Our local guild has a long history of respecting partisan differences among us (some of our officers are not Dems or Reps, but rather Greens or decline-to-state voters) and thus does not endorse in partisan races, such as state Assembly or Senate.
However, our state-level affiliate, the California Federation of Teachers, endorses in almost every Assembly and state Senate election as well as in the gubernatorial election.
Due to term limits, some of the finest legislators must stop serving after six years in the Assembly or eight years in the state Senate.  Our local assembly member, Dario Frommer, is termed out this coming year, and a hot Democratic primary will occur on June 6,  between Frank Quintero of the Glendale City Council and Paul Krekorian of the Burbank School Board.  Republicans have one candidate in the race, Michael Agbaba.
Due to a long history of supporting labor issues, Frank Quintero has been endorsed not only by our statewide CFT, but also by the County Federation of Labor.  Our local president, Mike Allen, as an individual community member, is also endorsing Frank Quintero.
Mike says, "I have been politically active in Glendale for years, and Frank has been a strong ally.  Whether the issue was tenant rights, the city's renewable energy policy, or helping us find good trustee candidates for our college, I have always been able to rely on Frank.  His long years of experience with vocational education will make him a real asset to the community college system in the Assembly, whereas his only opponent in the primary is a "corporate" Democrat."

Mike added, "I think the CFT made a great choice" in deciding to support Quintero. &
