My daughter’s fifth grade class
from Incarnation Catholic School in Glendale recently toured the bones
exhibit and saw the planetarium show on campus, and I was reminded of
all the efforts that went into making the science center a reality.
Years of planning and fund raising started with a basic sign-up sheet
that urged faculty and staff to commit funds to a project that was years
from breaking ground.
The year was 1999 when I pledged $500 toward a tile campaign that was
just one facet of the campus-wide fund raising effort that was supported
by staff, faculty and administrators as well as alumni and members of
the community. I have walked past the donor wall many times and looked
at my tile, but it never really struck me until I stood there with my
daughter that the contribution from our family will always be part of
the science center.
A second donor wall and tile donation project is in the works for the
science center to raise additional funds and will be placed on the
campus side of the center near the exhibit room. The design and
specifics of the project will be discussed at the Foundation Board of
Directors meeting Tuesday, January 18, 2005.
On Monday, December 20, at the monthly Board of Trustees meeting, the
fundraising plans for the athletic field scoreboard project will be
unveiled and announcements will be made of a major donor for the project
and the naming of the field. An update on the completion of the lighting
phase of construction will be presented as well as information on when
ground will be broken to install artificial surfaces on the field and
track.
The funding for the field renovation will come from the $98 million
Measure G bond initiative that was passed by Glendale voters in 2002.
Funding must be raised privately for the $100,000 scoreboard and a
planned $250,000 athletic endowment that will support maintenance and
supplies for the field and additional needs of the athletic department.
A donor wall has been created in the design of the athletic hall of fame
mural and will be attached to the scoreboard as a way to honor
supporters of the project for sponsorship levels from $500 to $10,000.
Recognition tiles will vary in size depending on the amount of the
donation, and space is available on the scoreboard for even larger
donations.
College staff, alumni and members of the community will have an
opportunity to support this project through their tax deductible
donations and forever be part of the fundraising efforts in support of
Glendale College Athletics. Please call the Foundation at x5197 for more
information.&
