It is with great pleasure that I announce to you the first  annual "John Davitt Award for Outstanding Classified Service." This award is to recognize the valuable contributions of the Glendale College classified staff to the daily success of the college. How nice that in these difficult budget times we are able to establish this award and allow our classified staff to know how much they are appreciated.

Nominations will be accepted from students, faculty, managers, administrators, confidential employees, classified employees and the general public. The nomination forms are available in several locations around the campus including ACTC, Accounting, Allied Health, CDC, Center for Students with Disabilities, CSEA/Governance Office, EOPS, Facilities, Financial Aid, Food Services, Health Center, Human Resources, and the ITS Department.

This award is the result of the wisdom and hard work of Diane Fiero in Human Resources. While not eligible to receive the award herself, she has put in countless hours on behalf of the classified staff in gaining this recognition. Her efforts began last year when she applied to the Associated Students for an Innovative Grant to fund the first year of the award.  Next, she put together a committee to study the information she had gathered from other colleges and put together a nomination form and award structure that will work for Glendale College. Finally, the committee was increased in size to include classified staff from the entire campus community to insure that all have representation.

Now, it is time for us to show Diane how much appreciate her efforts. Please, take the time to pick up a nomination form, or two, and remember all of the wonderful help you have received from other classified staff members.

The rules are simple:

  1. Nominees must be in the classified unit and have passed  probation.
  2. You may not nominate yourself.
  3. The nomination form must be completed and signed by the nominator.
  4. The deadline for nomination forms is April 1, 2002.
  5. All information received is confidential.
  6. All completed nomination forms must be returned to Diane Fiero, Office of Human Resources, Sierra Madre Bldg. Room 265.

All valid nomination forms will be forwarded to the Classified Employee Recognition Committee for review. All employees receiving a valid nomination will receive a letter notifying them of their nomination.  This letter will also be placed in their personnel file. The employee deemed most deserving by the committee will receive a generous monetary award, an attractive plaque to hang in the work area, and a presentation made at the June 2002 Board meeting. The winner and the finalists for this award will be announced during the Classified School Employees Week of May 20-25, 2002. Please take the time to obtain the nomination form and fill it out, recognizing your fellow workers and the ongoing support we give each other. Also, if you see Diane be sure to thank her for the concern she shows on our behalf. We are all valuable, and it so nice to be appreciated and recognized for our value.
