Teacher Training Success

Return to the Chaparral homepage

After only two years of funding, the GCC Teacher Reading Development Partnership (T4—Tutors Today, Teachers Tomorrow) is proud to have transferred four students during its first year and to congratulate the 25 students who have been accepted for transfer next fall.

These students will head straight into the BA/Teacher Credential program at CSULA, where they will earn a BA in Liberal Studies and a full credential in just two years.  This puts GCC on the map as a "teacher preparation" community college.

By the time they transfer, the students will have put more than 1,000 hours into local elementary school classrooms getting mentored and helping kids learn to read. All of them have been promised teaching jobs in the Glendale Unified District once they finish at CSULA.

Congratulations to the students, their counselor, Ramona Barrio-Sotillo, and program director Andra Verstraete. z
