Spanish instructor Stacy Jazán and her husband, Jorge, are celebrating the birth of their first child, Taylor Jorge Jazán, on February 26, 2003. Taylor weighed 7lbs. 7oz and measured 20 inches.  

Congratulations to Brian Landisi, son of Diane Landisi, Admin. Asst. in the Technology Division. Brian is a sophomore and trustee scholar at Loyola Marymount University. He was a recent contestant and winner on Wheel of Fortune! Brian intends to use his winnings for a study abroad program in Spain this summer.  

Mirta Lorenzo, Job Placement Supervisor, became a grandmother for the second time. Her granddaughter, Clara Bess Lorenzo, was born February 19, 2003 to Mirta's daughter-in-law and son, Shira Belman and Manny Lorenzo,  who live in Denver. Clara Bess weighed 5 lbs. 1 oz. and measured 18 1/2 inches. The baby and her parents are doing great, and Mirta and her husband Manuel are thrilled with this new addition to their family.  

An article and research study by four GCC instructors has been published in a renowned international journal of library science, "Reference Services Review," Vol.30 No. 4, 2002. Librarians Deborah Moore and Steve Brewster, nursing instructor Cynthia Dorroh and journalism and English instructor Michael Moreau wrote "Information Competency Instruction in a Two-Year College: One Size Does Not Fit All." Prior to publishing the article, the four GCC instructors gave a joint presentation at LOEX, a national information literacy conference.  After a competitive proposal process, GCC was the only community college asked to present at the conference.

Martin Mondrus, professor emeritus of art, has just been elected president of the Los Angeles Printmaking Society. He'll serve a two-year term.
