Bhupesh and Kumud Parikh

Translated from the book called Bhagvat Gita, “Dat Yam lti Yat Danam” means giving is your duty in Sanskrit. Bhupesh Parikh uses this ideal as a way to honor his wife, Kumud, and Glendale College and say thank you America.

Almost two years ago in August, 2005, the announcement of Parikh’s $1 million donation to the college was seen as exactly what was needed to jump start the fundraising for the Bhupesh Parikh Health Sciences and Technology Building,  which houses the Kumud Parikh Health Sciences Division. Fast forwarding to 2007, the building that has been in the planning stages for the past 10 years is expected to be completed by this summer.

Anyone interested in contributing to this project or any other donor wall opportunities on campus should call the Foundation at x5199.

Most of the $17.6 million building cost was funded by a combination of our Glendale Measure G and statewide bonds. The Foundation, on behalf of the college, has undertaken the challenge of raising private support to fund the additional building costs. The shortfall in funding the building is due to the rising costs of construction, primarily cement and steel.

The Foundation has been successful raising funds for other construction projects on campus, namely the Cimmarusti Science Center and Sartoris Field, by asking donors to contribute for tiles on a donor wall or for classrooms, labs and even a scoreboard. To date, more than $1.3 million has been raised through donations and pledges for the Bhupesh Parikh Health Science and Technology Building.  Donors will be recognized with tiles on the “Thank You America Donor Wall” to be installed in late June at the site. Individuals who donate for labs and classrooms will have their names placed on plaques outside each location.

These donors include Greg Varom, who has funded an EMT Lab, and Matthew Matti and Vandana & Dinesh Patel, who will support classrooms in the building. Hargovind and Kanta Patel will also donate funds for a graphic support area in the Digital Media Arts Center.

Donor tiles with personalized inscriptions to help support additional building costs are available in a variety of sizes and donation levels from $500 to $15,000.  Donations can be made over a three year period by cash, credit card or appreciated stock or real estate and through payroll deduction for college employees.
