CLASSIFIED COUNCIL CORNER
by Catherine Crawford, Classified Council President

Kit Crawford

So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Adieu…

The past two years as Classified Council President have been most memorable, and I would like to thank everyone on the 2005/2007 Classified Council Board for all their support. I certainly could not have done the job without their help, enthusiasm and dedication.

One of the main goals of Classified Council is to raise funds for student scholarships. I would like to express gratitude to everyone on campus for their support (and for not running away when I forced yet more candy on them). Our fundraising efforts have been particularly successful in the past few years, and hopefully we will continue to meet our fundraising targets in the future.

Being a Classified Council Board member is voluntary, and unlike other employee organizations on campus, no release time is given for board meetings, planning and running events. In the past, we relied completely on the goodwill of the administration to help us achieve our goals. I sincerely hope that this will remain the case. The Council charges only a small annual fee of $7, and so the majority our philanthropic gifts are based on fundraising. We support and sponsor many events on campus, including Classified Institute Day, Classified Week, the Annual Retirement/Recognition Event and the Classified Holiday Party.

Please don’t forget that our year- end party will be on June 6 in the Los Robles restaurant. At this event, the new Board and President will be formally introduced. Our 2007 student scholarship winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded. This event is free for all members. A small fee will be charged to non-members.

Before signing off, I would like to recognize every classified member on campus. I salute you all for your hard work and commitment to Glendale College.
