This is the final issue of Chaparral for the
2009-2010 academic year, and it is a time to revisit the past year.
There were many challenges and positive outcomes that we faced that
impacted not only classified staff but also all constituent groups
on the campus, including:
- Dr. Dawn Lindsay's selection as
Superintendent/President of the college
- the Accreditation Visit in April
CSEA has almost wrapped up negotiations of the
Successor Agreement 2009-2012 with the District. The negotiation
team kept classified employees informed as bargaining progressed.
The state budget is not promising; hopefully, the May Revise will
give some indication of where we are financially and what our budget
figures will be.
Classified employees had a retreat in Malibu
during spring break. This was a great two-day event filled with
various workshops and informational sessions.
The week of May 17th is Classified Employees Week, and on May 19,
classified employees will have a barbecue. This time the event will
be at the open patio of the Bhupesh Parikh building. The very first
year when Dawn Lindsay joined the college as VP of Instruction, she
started a tradition: the administrators cook the barbecue.
As I mentioned, this is the final issue of the
newsletter for this academic year. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank the outgoing Academic Senate President, John
Queen, for all support I have gotten from him over the last two
years. He keeps telling me that he will be in his other office in
the San Rafael building if I need him. I told him not to worry; I
will find my way to his other office.
