Due to the recent resignation of Trustee Kathleen Burke-Kelly, the GCC Board of Trustees held an appointment process for the interim trustee position.  The position is to serve until the April elections, in which two seats on the Board will be up for election.   (One is held by appointee Vahe Peroomian and the second by the newest appointee).

The process for the short-term appointment included a campus committee which screened applicants (four applied; three were sent forward to the Board), then two open meetings for the three finalists to present themselves to the campus, the community and the Board itself.

On October 30, at the board meeting where the final selection was made, Board President Armine Hacopian stated that all the finalists were highly qualified and expressed her regrets that there were not three openings so that all of them could serve as trustees.  She and other trustees thanked the applicants for their interest and encouraged those who did not receive the appointment to remain active in supporting the college.

The Board heard comments from several members of the public who spoke on behalf of applicant Rebecca Delfino, an attorney serving in the State Appeals Court system.  After the comments concluded, the Board appointed Tony Tartaglia, past President of the College Foundation Board. Following the vote, Tartaglia was given the oath of office and immediately joined the Board in closed session.

Tartaglia is a district manager for The Gas Company and a resident of Glendale.  He serves as chair and member of the Measure G Oversight Committee, on the Glendale Parks and Recreation Commission and served on Glendale's Charter Commission.  In addition, he is on the Board of Directors of the New Horizons Family Center, served on the Glendale Chamber of Commerce and San Fernando Corridor Rezoning Advisory Committee. &
