Classified Council Corner

by Patricia Chamroonrat, President, Classified Council

What is Classified Council all about? That is what I asked when I first was nominated for Classified Council president. The response was an overwhelming, “Oh, it’s all for fun, we [Classified Council] are the social/fun group...”

Okay, I can handle fun. So I accepted the nomination and soon was elected to the role! And soon the fun began to roll...even as early as August!

First, I want to acknowledge your 2003-2005 Classified Council executive board members: Merrilee Ahaus (vice president), Pamela Boehret (secretary), Amir Nour (treasurer), and five members-at-large; Kit Crawford, Wendy Grove, Jessica LoGuercio, Vera McGillivray, and Jenny McMahon. I think you will be in good hands.

Our first executive mission was to coordinate Classified Institute Day this past August 26th. We had a great turnout! Close to 200 classified employees attended. CSEA generously provided lunch. It was a pleasure to see so many friendly faces; and thank you ACTC for taking the extra time to come to the main campus!

As we plan for upcoming events, our mantra is clear; we would like to plan for activities that are good for you. We look to provide you with helpful information, interesting lectures, fun activities, and nice surprises!

This year, we made an executive decision to lower our membership fee to only five dollars per year! It is our sweet deal for you. Please ask any board member for a membership form; remember, it is never too late to join! I encourage everyone to join. Also, it is important that you know that part of your membership fee goes towards our student scholarships fund. See, it’s all good!

We always look forward to seeing you at our monthly meetings when we present to you speakers with important or interesting topics. At our September meeting, GCC police officer Samir Abou-Rass shared important information about campus safety issues. Officer Abou-Rass held a captive audience as he shared some very helpful safety tips.

Please save December 11th on your calendar. That’s when we’ll host our holiday dinner party at a very special place. As usual, there will be lots of fun and prizes for everyone. Did I mention that Classified Council members get a special price break? Okay, here’s another good reason for you to become a member!

I know work can keep everyone so very busy, and this sounds like another time-consuming thing...but it’s not. We, ourselves, don’t have the time to waste your time. We want to make sure it’s worth it and it’s good for everyone.  &
