The Glendale Community College Alumni Association is inviting all of its members to attend a homecoming event on Saturday, November 11, 2006 before the final home football game of the year. The event will be an indoor tailgate party in the lobby of the San Rafael Building, with snacks and light beverages served between 5:45-6:45 p.m.

A theatre day on Sunday, November 12 at 2 p.m. will offer alumni members the opportunity to see the student production, Waiting for Lefty. Alumni members can attend both events at a discounted price by showing their membership card.

These events are just a few that have taken place recently in an effort to broaden the activities of the alumni group and to increase membership. Last fall, a well-attended class led by men’s athletic director Jim Sartoris, “Football 101,’’ was sponsored by the alumni association as a way to help people understand the basic nuances of the game.

The alumni board of directors has gone to great lengths to extend the profile of the group by expanding the association’s website, offering items for sale with the alumni logo, and sending out a newsletter highlighting alumni and their activities. President Antonino Patti has also spoken at many campus meetings and events since last year, touting group activities and working to increase membership to help fund scholarships for transfer students.

Students and community members are recognized for their service to the college each spring at the alumni banquet, held at the Oakmont Country Club. College administrators, staff and dignitaries all support this very popular event, where each award is presented by one of the association’s board of directors.&
