| Tough Year Ahead
I cannot say Welcome Back to classified
employees, because we were here during summer, but definitely:
welcome back to the faculty. The state budget is signed with funding
shortages to education, and there may be more mid-year cuts in the
future.
Negotiations with the District have already started. CSEA openers
for the Successor Agreement will be presented at the Board of
Trustees meeting in August. It is a time when all constituent groups
must come together with the understanding that there is no such
thing as an elite group here at the college; we all need to shoulder
our fair share of the budget deficit burden to survive tough times.
It is not just financial problems we are facing; we also have
accreditation around the corner. I would like to officially welcome
Dr. Dawn Lindsay and Dr. Mary Mirch in their new capacities. Good
luck to both of you at these not so good times, to say the least!
CSEA’s Annual Conference is the most important
member event of the year. Michael Nouh, Shauna Wilkes and I are the
delegates to the CSEA 83rd Annual Conference this year. At this
upcoming conference we, the delegates, will be voting for both the
Association officers and CSEA president.
Further, it is also an election year for our
chapter; we will nominate candidates for the two-year terms at our
September and October chapter meetings. The voting will take place
in December.
Classified Institute Day is scheduled for
August 26. This year the format of the event has changed, although
the event will still encompass a full day. Workshops will take place
in the afternoon. More information will be available on our website.
Finally, I would like to congratulate the
winners of the John Davitt Award for Outstanding Service to the
college. They are CSEA 1st VP Hoover Zariani, who won the award for
Classified Service, and CSEA Past President Nidal Kobaissi, who won
the Management/Confidential award.
In Unity,
Saodat Aziskhanova
President
Chapter 76, CSEA
