  • Business/Office Skills – Course Descriptions
    • OBT 011 Beginning Keyboarding
      • This is an individualized class that covers keyboarding Lessons 1 – 20 by touch. All students work on computers. Accuracy and speed development is offered. Students may enter at any time.
    • OBT 012 Intermediate Keyboarding
      • This is an individualized class that covers keyboarding Lessons 21 – 80 by touch through the production of business documents. Students work on computers and learn MS Word as they advance. Extensive accuracy and speed development is offered. Students may enter at any time.
    • OBT 013 Advanced Keyboarding
      • This is an individualized class that applies keyboarding and MS Word skills to business documents through the application of advanced features in specialized situations. Class covers Lessons 81- 120. Extensive accuracy and speed development is offered. Students may enter at any time.
    • OBT 021 Business Math and Calculators
      • This course improves basic math skills and teaches calculators by touch and calculator functions.
    • OBT 022 Beginning Account Clerk
      • Students will study the full accounting cycle in Chapters 1 – 16, financial statements, payroll, accounts receivable/payable in manual and QuickBooks and Peachtree formats.
    • OBT 023 Advanced Account Clerk
      • Students will study advanced accounting Chapters 17 – 24, financial statements, uncollectibles, notes payable/receivable, accruals, inventory, advanced accounts receivable/payable in manual and QuickBooks and Peachtree formats.
    • OBT 031 Business Writing: Email
      • This course covers email writing including English essentials and email etiquette rules.
    • OBT 032 Business Writing: Memos
      • This course focuses on interoffice memorandum writing. English essentials and other forms of workplace documents such as news releases.
    • OBT 033 Business Letter Writing
      • This course covers business letter composition, English essentials, and production of other workplace documents such as agendas and minutes.
    • OBT 034 Filing Fundamentals
      • This course covers the use of indexing rules to file alphabetically, numerically, geographically, and by subject. Timed exercise practices, handouts, and quizzes are designed to assist students to prepare for employment tests and to accurately perform on-the-job filing. Computerized software provides hands-on review filing fundamentals.
    • OBT 035 On-the-Job Communication
      • This course emphasizes workplace interaction and avoiding barriers to communication as well as adapting to a variety of personal communication styles. Included are communication strategies for getting along with coworkers, supervisors, and clients. Other topics covered are decision making, problem solving, and overcoming negative behaviors in teams/groups.
    • OBT 061 Medical Front Office
      • Topics covered under this program include a comprehensive understanding of medical front office duties: medical terminology, front office procedures, medical billing and coding, medical transcription and Medisoft.
    • OBT 062 Dental Front Office
      • Topics covered under this program include a comprehensive understanding of dental front office duties: dental terminology, office procedures, billing and transcription techniques, and Dental Software.

    • OBT 070 Introduction to Computers
      • This course is designed as a foundation to prepare students for the study and use of microcomputer software applications. It offers background information and a hands-on introduction to personal computers and its software. This course includes supervised laboratory learning and lecture/demonstrations.
    • OBT 071 Computer Basics for ESL
    • OBT 080 Windows
      • This course is designed to familiarize the student with the basic computer skills essential for using Microsoft Windows to interact with IBM compatible microcomputers in a competent manner.
    • OBT 090 Microsoft Excel
      • This course is designed to meet the employment needs of private industry and of the public sector. It offers hands-on computerized spreadsheet training for students with no previous spreadsheet experience. The Introduction to Computers class or some recent computer experience is recommended for enrollment.
    • OBT 091 Microsoft Advanced Excel
      • Advanced Excel is designed to teach students advanced features of MS Excel including applying number formats using Excel templates, linking and sharing workbooks, and utilizing financial and statistical functions. Beginning Excel is strongly recommended for enrollment.
    • OBT 095 Quickbooks
      • Automated accounting for a small business use. Knowledge of accounting is recommended. Introduction to Computers or some computer experience is recommended for enrollment.
    • OBT 097 Peachtree
      • Automated accounting for a small business use. Knowledge of accounting is recommended. Introduction to Computers or some computer experience is required for enrollment.
    • OBT 100 Beginning Microsoft Word
      • This course is designed to meet the employment needs of the public sector and private industry. It offers hand-on word processing for students with no previous word processing experience. A typing speed of 25 is recommended. Introduction to Computers or some recent computer experience is recommended for enrollment.
    • OBT 101 Advanced Microsoft Word
      • This course is designed to teach students advanced features of MS Word including using mail merge, creating tables, inserting graphics into a document, modifying charts, creating styles and applying macros. Beginning Word and a typing speed of 25 wpm are strong recommended.
    • OBT 111 Microsoft PowerPoint
      • This course is designed to help turn your ideas into professional, compelling presentations. Introduction to Computers or some recent computer experience is recommended for enrollment.
    • OBT 113 Microsoft Access
      • Access is database management software. Experience with Word or Excel is recommended. The Introduction to Computers class or some recent computer experience is required for enrollment.
    • OBT 138 Outlook
      • This course provides an introduction to a personal information management (PMI) program using MS Office Outlook. This beginning course includes communication by email, managing contacts, planning tasks and schedules, and managing the inbox.
    • OBT 140 Internet
      • This class offers instruction in sending/receiving email and using Internet Explorer to search the World Wide Web. Introduction to Computers or some recent computer experience is required for enrollment.
    • OBT 150 Integrated Technology
      • This course introduces methods of creating documents and other projects by importing information and images into Word or PowerPoint from Excel, Access, Outlook, and peripheral hardware such as digital cameras and scanners.
  • Home Arts – Course Descriptions
    • HOM A 010 Creative Stitchery
      • This course covers the many stitching techniques found in the three general categories of needlework – surface embroidery, needlepoint (canvas work), and counted thread.  This broad range of stitching techniques is presented for the purpose of developing wall hangings, pictures, pillows and other decorative items.  To enhance needlework as an art form, a wide variety of traditional and contemporary threads and fabrics are used.
    • HOM A 020  Multi-Level Sewing and Dressmaking
      • This course meets the needs of the beginning sewing student or the student with limited experience, as well as the student with some experience ranging from intermediate to advanced levels, including tailoring, if needed.

      • This course presents quilt-making techniques for the purpose of developing functional and decorative items.  Traditional and contemporary designs and techniques will be demonstrated and practiced.

      • This course examines the philosophies and ethics of a variety of historical and modern thinkers. Discussion centers on the application of these theories to the student’s life.

      • This course class explores the far reaches of the human mind – the processes of remember and forgetting.
    • LLS 030 Discovering Yourself through Memoir Writing and More
      • This course provides the opportunity for mature adults to call, discuss and translate their memories into written memoirs by application of varied writing techniques and share oral expression.
    • LLS 040 Health and Exercise
      • This course is a health and fitness class designed for the mature adult. Learn the correct ways to stretch and stay limber. Participate in low-impact aerobics to improve cardiovascular health. Learn health and diet information designed to help adults create and retain vigor and well-being.
    • LLS 042 Health and Fitness through Aerobic Movement
      • This course is a health course designed for the mature adult who is interested in improving general health, fitness, physical coordination, and memory.
    • LLS 044 Diet and Nutrition
      • This course covers nutritional basics as a foundation for personalizing a healthy, simple, and effective diet plan that is best for each student.
    • LLS 050 Beginning Sketching
      • This course is designed to introduce basic drawing of sketching skills to the older adult. Students will learn the basics of mark making which will enable them to document their lives and interests by means of a sketchbook.
    • LLS 051 Advanced Sketching
      • This course introduces more advanced drawing skills to the older adult. Students further explore mark making and its potential for documentation and self-expression. Work on location will allow students to develop more skill as they sketch from life. Presentation and observation of student work and artists work will enrich mark making vocabulary and dialogue.
    • LLS 052 Introduction to Painting
      • This course is an introduction to methods of painting. Students are introduced to oil pastel, oil painting and acrylic painting mediums. Emphasis is placed on visual interpretation, familiarization with the various mediums, design and color principles and various techniques of painting.
    • LLS 053 Watercolor and color Drawing
      • This course provides a transition from sketching to painting for older or mature adults by reviewing and developing basic drawing skills and by applying the use of an aqua or dust medium and a brief introduction of color principles to these skills.
    • LLS 070 Contemporary Novels
      • This course involves discussion of current novels and some nonfiction providing a medium through which one develops insight into creative expressions.
    • LLS 072 Film Criticism
      • This course affords the development of critical analysis of films. Discussion of both contemporary and earlier films provides an opportunity to gain insight and understanding into the creation of the films and the effects of cultural and societal mores on the content and production of movies. Selected motion pictures are screened.
    • LLS 080 Acting Improvisation Workshop
      • This course explores acting techniques in a series of theater games and improvisations that emphasize basic acting skills.
    • LLS 090 Art History
      • This course promotes an understanding of the role of art in human development. A variety of periods, geographical areas, and artists will be presented.

      • This course provides a general introduction to human beings’ religious nature, ancient religions, and a more thorough discussion of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism.

      • This course introduces students to basic financial principals needed for everyday life.

      • This course focuses study on parenting children from 7 to 12 months of age.  Parents (or caregivers) attend class with one or more children of the designated age.
    • PARED 012     Toddlers (13 – 19 Months)
      • This course focuses study on parenting children from 13 to 19 months of age.  Parents (or caregivers) attend class with one or more children of the designated age.

      • This course focuses study on parenting children from 20 – 26 months of age.  Parents (or caregivers) attend class with one or more children of the designated age.

    • PARED 051     Fathering Skills
      • This course focuses study on the father’s role in parenting children from birth through the pre-kindergarten years.  Fathers attend class with one or more pre-school age child.
    • PARED 054     Working Parents
      • This course focuses study on the working parent’s role in parenting children from birth through the pre-kindergarten years.  Special attention is given to the challenges of raising a child while working full-time.  Parents attend class with one or more children of the designated age.
    • PARED 060     Positive Parenting Skills
      • This course focuses on parents who seek instruction in positive, alternative parenting methods that will redirect inappropriate behavior of children and adolescents of all ages.  If needed by the students enrolled, this class may also address single parenting issues. Court referred parents are welcome.
