21st Century Employment Strategies
9 years with the college
“My passion is to
help people know themselves better, and get the best job possible for
their skill level. We’re constantly updating the class to meet the
ever-changing needs of employers, taking into account technology and
employment trends. For example, in today’s employment world, an
applicant may be interviewed over the phone…by a computer! Interviews
may also be conducted in the form of a question-and-answer format via
the Internet. Those seeking job opportunities in today’s market must be
able to adapt to these new recruitment strategies.
“Many of the students that attend my class have outstanding work
histories, but are not prepared to present themselves to an employer.
Other students may be retraining or have a limited work history. They
are unsure how to handle negotiating for salary or how to accept
rejection and still keep motivated in a competitive job market. One
student told me ‘it all makes sense now. I had no idea there was so much
to know.’”
The 21st Century Employment Strategies class, part of our Business
Education program, meets five mornings a week at the Garfield Campus.
