Program Summary: Course Outline

As a Pharmacy Technician you will help the pharmacist package or mix a prescription, maintain client records, refer clients to the pharmacist for counseling, assist with inventory control and purchasing, as well as collect payment and coordinate billing. This course combines 180 hours of classroom instruction with 120-hour externship to provide you with a complete learning experience.

Course Fee: Course tuition is $2145.  Price includes tuition, books, equipment, externship and certificate of completion. Fees for State registration or licensing are not included in the price. Students must give 7 days notice for cancellation and refunds.

Externships: “Eligible” students will be placed in externships no later than 90 days from the end of the classroom portion of any course. An eligible student is one who has all prerequisites on file with Boston Reed College and has successfully completed the classroom portion of the course. Full details will be given during the first class session.

Community Job Survey: Faster than average growth in the number of jobs is expected through 2014. The increasing population, longer life spans, and need for medical aid will contribute to growth in the pharmaceutical business.

Prerequisites: There are no minimum state requirements for enrollment. We recommend that students are at least 18 years of age and have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent. Prior to placement in an externship, each participant will be required to show proof of completion CPR for the healthcare provider, (the CPR course must be one and two-person teams for adult, child and infant CPR;) proof of a current physical examination, tuberculosis screening, and submit a resume. Obtaining CPR, Physical, TB screening and Resume is student’s responsibility.

English and Math Prescreening: You will be required to pass an English language and math prescreening prior to final admittance into any course. This prescreening will be administered on the first day of class. The prescreening covers basic English language reading and comprehension as well as basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and percentages). If the applicant does not pass the exam they can request a refund of the 100% of fees paid. This refund will be processed within 7 business days from the first day of the course.

Recognition: Upon completion graduates will receive our Certificate of Completion and become eligible to apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of California.

Note: Students will be prepared for the PTCB Test that offers National Certification of Pharmacy Technicians required in some states. The title of Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is given to a student when he or she has successfully passed the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. A practice test is included in the course curriculum. The state of California does not require the PTCB test - but we will encourage students to take it to improve their employment eligibility.
