The Getty Villa and Santa Monica Pier

The Getty Villa at MalibuWe begin our day with a visit to the Santa Monica Pier. Enjoy the scenic ocean views and have lunch at Bubba Gump’s, a restaurant based on the movie, Forrest Gump. Lunch includes house salad, garlic bread, your choice of 5 different entrees, an ice cream sundae and your choice of a non-alcholic
drink. Then it’s off to Malibu and the exquisite Getty Villa Museum. The Getty Villa is modeled after a first-century Roman country house, the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaeum, Italy. It was originally constructed in the early 1970s, and reopened just a few years ago after an extensive renovation. Visitors now start their visit in a spectacular open-air Entry Pavilion and continue to scenic pathway to the site. With each building a slightly different elevation, visitors experience the site as an archaeological excavation, every perspective offering new discoveries. Appreciate their extraordinary collection of Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities against a backdrop of fine marbles, Doric columns and views of the sparkling blue ocean. Be sure to stop by the museum’s gift shop, which offers a wide variety of wonderful items for you to purchase as a memento of your day at the Getty. This tour is operated by Regina Rocha Tours.
