Dr. Stacy Jazán is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Glendale College. She
received her Ph.D. from UCLA in Hispanic Languages and Literatures, focusing on 20th Century Latin American
literature and specializing in poetry. Dr. Jazán also holds an M.A. and a B.A. from UCLA, majoring in Spanish.
In addition, she has an A.A. from Pierce College. While her major interests lie with 20th Century Latin
American poetry, her other major areas of interest are Colonial literature, Siglo de Oro literature, 19th
Century Latin American literature, and 20th Century Spanish literature. Dr. Jazán has traveled extensively
throughout South America, Mexico, and Spain, and enjoys incorporating culture in the classroom. She also
collaborated with the 2007 Study Abroad trip to Argentina. Given the necessity of knowing how to speak Spanish
in Los Angeles, she has created a series of courses which teach occupational Spanish. Dr. Jazán was
instrumental in placing our Spanish language laboratory on-line through WebCT, and is involved in creating
hybrid Spanish courses. Beginning spring 2007, Dr. Jazán is excited to offer Spanish 124, an Honors Spanish
literature class which looks at important works in translation from both Spanish and Latin America, including
many Nobel Prize winning authors.
