Ted Levatter has been teaching at Glendale Community College for over 20 years
(although to him it seems like only 2 or 3). He received his B.A. in Dramatic Arts from the University of
California a Santa Barbara after which he took to the road touring with a large folk singing group in which he
also played guitar and 5-string banjo. After leaving the group, he studied voice at California Institute of
the Arts and then, realizing that he did not want to be an opera singer, earned an M.A. in Speech Pathology and
Audiology from California State College, Los Angeles where he also took several Speech Communication classes.
During this time, as he desperately tried to avoid getting a full time job, Ted did background voices for a
number of films (the most well known is Top Gun in which he sang “You’ve lost that Lovin’ Feeling) and worked
doing singing telegrams with a belly dancer. He loves teaching Speech Communications classes at Glendale
College and continues to do private practice speech therapy specializing in working with people who stutter (he
is a stutterer himself). He currently lives with his wife and daughter in North Hollywood and spends a lot of
time helping his daughter learn the violin.
