Nick Garnik Sahakyan was born in Armenia. He grew up in Yerevan and obtained his
Master's Degree in Armenian Philology from Yerevan State University. In Armenia he worked as a journalist and
a college teacher. His American career follows the same path. He worked for several Armenian newspapers and
periodicals, including Nor Hayastan Daily, Avangard, and other popular publications. He is currently a full
time instructor of Armenian language and literature at Glendale College. Mr. Sahakyan is also a writer. His
works, which include a novel, a play, and short stories, have received positive recognition by Armenian
literary critics. In addition to his obvious devotion to his native language, literature, and culture, Mr.
Sahakyan is an ardent admirer of Russian and French literature. He is married and has two children. Both he
and his wife are alumni of Glendale College.
