Shihoko Tatsugawa was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She received her Bachelor's
Degree from Meiji Gakuin University in Tokyo, specializing in Education and English Literature. She came to
the United States when she was in her twenties and received a Mater's Degree from California State University,
Los Angeles. She has devoted her professional life to teaching Japanese language and literature. Her teaching
positions have included Pasadena City College and East Los Angeles College. She currently, in addition to her
instructorship in Japanese at Glendale College, is the Principal of a Saturday Japanese language school. She
holds certificates in traditional Japanese Arts, like Ikebana(flower arranging) and folk dancing and she
participates actively in the life of the Japanese community in Monterey Park. She loves cats, has several of
her own, as well as a husband, a son and a daughter.
