Student Development 100 - College Orientation
Course Outline

I.      Catalog Statement
  Student Development 100 is an introductory college orientation course for newly enrolled and matriculated students. The course covers the following topics: college academic regulations, four-year schools' requirements for transfer, A.A. degree requirements, Certificate programs' requirements, college services and specialized student support services. At the conclusion of the course, the student is able to produce a Student Educational Plan.
  Units: 0.5 - 1.0
Lecture Hours: 0.5 - 1.0
  Recommended Preparation: Eligibility for English 187 or ESL 123
  Note: This course may be taken 2 times; a maximum of 2 units may be earned.
 
II. Course Entry Expectations
  Skills Level Ranges: Reading 2; Writing 2; Listening/Speaking 2; Math 1.
 
III. Course Exit Standards
  Upon successful completion of the required coursework, the student will be able to:
  1.   explain the college's academic regulations;
  2.   compare and contrast all the specific requirements in order to transfer to the University of California (UC), California State University (CSU) and Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU) systems;
  3.   summarize Glendale Community College's Associate of Arts (AA)/Associate of Science (AS) Certificate and Major requirements;
  4.   identify the college's support services and summarize activities offered to students;
  5.   identify and explain the college's specialized student support services;
  6.   synthesize major information for selected academic majors;
  7.   prepare a Student Educational Plan.
