Services for Deaf and
Hard of Hearing Students

Glendale Community College offers services to Deaf and Hard of
Hearing students at two stages of academic progress:
1. Students
who need to improve their English skills before taking college level classes
The Deaf Studies Program is the only
program in Southern California that specializes in preparing Deaf and Hard
of Hearing students for college level English. The classes are taught
by instructors who are fluent in both ASL and English. Students who
have completed the program have successfully moved into regular college
classes. The three-year, multidisciplinary curriculum includes:

Beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes for Deaf students in
Reading, Writing, and Grammar

ASL 151
for Deaf students to study and understand the structure of American Sign
Language

Deaf and
Hearing faculty at the Master's level who are fluent in American Sign
Language

Deaf and
Hearing tutors who are fluent in ASL and English

WebCT
study guides in ASL and English

Students who are ready to enter regular college classes
All Deaf students have
access to:

Academic Counseling
with a counselor fluent in ASL

The Deaf Culture Club

Full access to all
clubs, sports teams, and activities on campus

An energetic and
supportive campus environment with professionals who understand Deafness
