Welcome to the Instructional Assistance
Center (IAC)
Mission Statement
It is the mission of the IAC to
provide support for students with verified disabilities pursuing a
successful college experience. We liaison between students and faculty
to assure that equal opportunity for a quality education is provided.
The IAC offers three primary areas of service:
1. LD Assessment There are students for whom
earning an education is a constant struggle. They cant understand how it
is they can study so hard, and then not earn the test grades they feel they
deserve. They know they are intelligent, because there are other things
they can do very well. By completing the LD assessment, students gain a
greater understanding of the way they process information. They learn if
there are specific areas that are causing them difficulty, and how to
compensate for those difficulties. It may be determined from the assessment
that the student is eligible to receive support services from CSD and the
IAC.
2.
Test Proctoring Some students are entitled to
receive test accommodations, such as extra time or the use of a word
processor. Most faculty do not have the time or resources to determine
which accommodations are appropriate or who should receive them. The IAC
provides test proctoring as a service to the faculty, as well as the
students.
3. Tutoring Students who want assistance with a
math or English class on an ongoing basis may sign up for St Dv 143. The
IAC has two full-time professionals on staff to provide academic support.
Students may also work with a Learning Specialist whenever they need
suggestions on how to study for a specific class.
