GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
EMT 139 – 2.00 units – Introduction to
Emergency Medical Services.
EMT
139 introduces the fundamental structure of the
EMS system,
hazards of the EMS environment including Epidemiology of common
communicable diseases, the well being of the EMT, and Medical Legal
aspects of the EMS system including documentation and communication
requirements. Successful completion of the class includes
certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR for Healthcare
Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA).
EMT 139 is a prerequisite to EMT 140 and
may not be taken concurrently.
Recommended
preparation:
BIOL 115 and ENGL 120 or ESL 151.

EMT 140 – 6.50 –
Emergency Medical Technician Basic.
EMT 140 is an intensive program designed to prepare students for
certification and entry-level employment as an Emergency Medical
Technician-Basic (EMT-B) in the state of California. After successful
completion of EMT 139 and EMT 140, a record of completion is issued.
The record of completion is required for national and local certifying
bodies prior to seeking employment. |
