Dear Judy and the Career Counseling Center Staff,

Several years ago I found myself adrift and at a friend’s recommendation wandered into a little class at Glendale College titled “Career Counseling”. Little did I know that this “little class” at this “little college” would change my life. Each student had to have an interview with the instructor and when I was speaking with Judy Apablaza I remember telling her that I didn’t know what I wanted to do but that I definitely did not want to go back to school because I really hated school and everything about it. Judy suggested to me that maybe I had never been to the right school and perhaps I would reconsider my stance on reentering school. This statement would be life changing. My class was given a battery of tests to help us find out about our strengths and interests. I called the class my Cosmo Quiz class. The tests were really interesting to take. I began to learn about my values and the career choices that might be a good fit for me. It was enlightening. I didn’t remember anyone prior to this class ever challenging me about my likes and dislikes and what my preferences were. It was recommended that I look into a school that valued my life experiences and was not so competitive. I followed up on this and ended up at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena. I got my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and have recently passed my board exams. Most things in life begin with small steps and when I tiptoed into the Glendale College Career Counseling Department I had no idea of the amazing life I would be living today. Thank you so much.
