Ed holds an MFA in acting from the California Institute of the Arts and has been a faculty member in the Theatre Department here at Glendale College for the last 20 years. His directing credits at Glendale College include THREE FRIENDSHIPS, TWO URNS, AND A BIRD, MOONCHILDREN, TWELFTH NIGHT and THREE POSTCARDS. Also here at Glendale College he has staged the fights for ROMEO AND JULIET, BATBOY, THE MUSICAL, DARK OF THE MOON and many other productions. He also is a full-time faculty member teaching acting and stage combat with the California State Summer School for the Arts. Ed has worked as a fight director with the Los Angeles Opera since 1986 and with his partner, Anthony DeLongis, has choreographed combat sequences and trained opera stars such as Placido Domingo, Jennifer Larmore, Sir Thomas Allen, Vladimir Chernov, and Richard Bernstein to use a variety of weapons. He has served as fight choreographer at many schools and theatres in the Southern California area including THE ILLUSION at UCLA, HAMLET at USC, THE CAVE DWELLERS and DRACULA at CalStateLA and THE MADBOY CHRONICLE with the Pilgrimage Theatre. Ed trained Ellen Barkin for the Warner Brothers film WILD BILL directed by Walter Hill and Musetta Vander for the Full Moon Entertainment film OBLIVIAN directed by Sam Irvin in the art of the bullwhip. Ed has volunteered extensively with Mount Washington Elementary School where he has conducted theatre-game workshops and directed student productions of ONCE UPON A LILY PAD, THE WIZARD OF OZ, a musical version of Mark Twain’s classic THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER and IF YOU WILL, SCENES FROM SHAKESPEARE. Ed, along with his partner, Anthony DeLongis, under the name of PALPABLE HIT PRODUCTIONS, produces and distributes training videos in stage combat and theatrical swordplay. In the spring of 2010 Ed will be directing a new translation by Nilo Cruz of Pedro Calderon de la Barca’s wonderful play LIFE IS A DREAM.
