The primary objective of the SPARK peer-mentoring program is to contribute to the advancement of first-year students by aiding in their academic, emotional, and social adjustments to college.

Why become a mentor?
Approximately half of the students who enroll in community college drop out after the first semester. There are a variety of complex reasons for this but we hope that with some help, the new GCC students will not become part of this statistic! This program hopes to gain the support of experienced second year students to assist incoming students find their way and what they need on campus to be successful. Not only do you help your assigned mentor you also become part of the SPARK network by helping students through special events and Facebook.

Why become a mentee?
The opportunity that a program like SPARK presents is invaluable to an incoming high school student. The program assures the student guidance and resources beginning with their last semester as a senior all the way through their freshman year at GCC. The program provides instant help through the SPARK Mentee Facebook Page and after the summer orientation and mentor assignment they get one-on-one help through their mentor and the entire SPARK network.
