The Glendale College Foundation 2013 Golf Classic promises to be the event of the year as members of the community as well as corporate sponsors come together to support the Foundations goal of helping students succeed. Thanks to Golf Committee Chair Kris Hons, this year’s Golf Classic will feature a shamble format, where each member of a team hits a tee shot on each hole, the best tee shot on the hole is selected, each team member then completes the hole with his/her own ball from that chosen location and then each individual player’s gross score is recorded.
“We have planned a wonderful day that starts on a beautiful golf course and concludes with an evening of great food, good friends, and most important of all charity,” says Kris Hons. “The auction items this year are just outstanding."
According to former Golf Classic chair Mike Haney, the Glendale College Foundation Golf Classic is Oakmont Country Club’s longest-running charity tournament. It has been held annually since 1978 and attracts a wide range of stakeholders from golfers and students to vendors and sponsors. Last year the tournament netted $53,000, and Haney hopes to raise even more much-needed funds this year. “This is our top fundraiser,” says Haney, “and it just keeps getting better.”
“The Golf Classic has been a Glendale College event for more than 30 years,” said Alex Leon, GCC’s Sports Information Director. “We are so fortunate to have repeat sponsors, and the whole community turns out for this event. This year, the prizes are better than ever and even includes a Pebble Beach Golf Package for two donated by Lexus of Glendale.”
This year’s Grand Sponsor is Knight Insurance Services, Glendale’s oldest insurance company and the sixth largest insurance brokerage in the country. They are continuing a proud tradition of helping our students as they have assumed the leadership position of Grand Sponsor every year since 2010. The Glendale College Foundation is also partnering with Lexus of Glendale and Bidding for Good for a raffle and live auction items including an iPad mini. Raffle tickets are also available through the Athletics Department and the Foundation Office.
