The Foundation would like to congratulate new Superintendent/President Dr. David Viar. Dr Viar’s selection follows an intense nation-wide six-month search for a permanent replacement for Interim Superintendent/President Jim Riggs following the resignation of Dawn Lindsay in 2011.
The selection process involved several community members as well as the entire college community, and culminated with the Board of Trustees interviewing three finalists. Board of Trustees President Ann Ransford announced that “We are now ready for the next chapter in our history at Glendale Community College. We look forward to a long and productive time together with Dr. Viar.”
Dr. Viar is currently in his eighth year as the President of American River College, one of four community colleges in the Los Rios Community College District serving the Greater Sacramento Metropolitan region. Prior to joining American River College, he served for 15 years as the CEO of the Community College League of California, an advocacy group comprised of the locally-elected governing board members and chief executive officers for California’s 112 community colleges. He has also served as the head of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association and as the executive director of the Association of Community College Trustees in Washington, D.C. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from Drake University and a BA in economics from Western Illinois University.
“I believe David Viar is a perfect fit for GCC,” said Dr. Riggs adding that “he is able to provide the kind of leadership necessary for the next several years.”
Dr. Viar is expected to take office at the beginning of July.
