Glendale College started off their second match of the season against the Saddleback College Gauchos today. What looked like could of been a rain out match turned out to be cold and misty but weather didn't deter the Vaqueros in their quest for victory. Glendale saw another impressive win from Hosep Orojian who beat Alex Ramandan 6-1, 6-1 at number 1 singles. Cameron Braun also continued with a impressive result against Rob Wall 6-0, 6-4 at number 5 singles.
Glendale saw tough matches with Dat Le who won the first set 6-2 but losing the second set 2-6 and down a break in the 3rd 0-1. Dat Le followed back with a break back until 4-4 when Dat broke to serve the match at 5-4. " I felt like I really played good the last couple games but felt a little unlucky when I was serving for the set and the two lob winners that he hit that gave him the break back" said Dat Le. At 5-5 Dat continued to put the pressure breaking back again and serving out the set winning 7-5. " I know when I got the break back I could serve out the set. Just had to stay focused and focus on the point".
Glendale finished up with Santiago Segovia at number 6 singles who saw himself losing the first set 2-6. " I went off my game which was the problem. Once I started to play my game I felt my confidence coming back and knew I could win" said Segovia. Segovia went on to win the second set 6-0 and finished off the third set 6-4.
In doubles Orojian and Le teamed up to win at number 1 doubles 8-1 giving Glendale the fifth point to win the match. Cameron Braun and Clayton Pauff also finished with another impressive result, winning 8-5 at number 3 doubles to give Glendale a 6-3 win over the Gauchos.
" These guys pulled through and even the guys not playing helped in supporting our guys make it to the finish line" said Bob Mackay. These guys are a great group of guys and have a great chemistry and each one of them knows that they all play a part in the team's success". The Vaqueros will next play at Fullerton Community College on Thursday February 6 at 2pm.
