Glendale College was dealt its first blow of the season today against College of the Desert at the Vaquero tennis complex. The Vaqueros going into today's match undefeated knew very little against the Roadrunners who started their first match of the season. "We knew nothing about their players for this year but knew that today could be a tough match" said Bob Mackay. "I think today we played pretty good and I think it really shows us what we need to prepare for during season".
The Vaqueros started off with a strong win with Hosep Orojian winning 6-1, 6-1 at number 1 singles. "I played really well today and I didn't let loose like the match before" said Orojian. "I was proud of how I played today and feel good going into season".
At number 5 singles Cameron Braun played a close first set taking the match to a first set tiebreak where Braun had set points before losing the tiebreak (8-6). In the second set Braun went down a earlier break eventually losing the match 6-3 in the second. "I felt like I could of played better match but overall I feel good going into league next week" said Cameron Braun.
At number 4 singles the Vaqueros lost one of the closest matches of the day with Dat Le taking the first set 3-6 but losing the second set 7-6 (8-6) and losing the super tiebreak (10-7). "Overall I played a good match" said Dat Le. " I felt like I could of pulled out the second set tiebreak and I definitely had my opportunities, but he played a good match to pull out the win".
Going into doubles the Vaqueros saw win's from Braun and Pauff at number 3 doubles winning 8-4 who have improved their record to 3-0 this season. "We both play really well together and their doubles team was pretty solid" said Cameron Braun. "I feel like each match were playing better and better and we have definitely been tested against some top teams".
"Overall this was a pretty close match" said Bob Mackay. "I feel like we can definitely play them close and I think these guys know what to prepare for during the season". Next week the Vaqueros will start off their first league match against Bakersfield Community College at the Renegade Tennis Complex on February 18 at 2pm. "I think these guys realize what they need to do and I think this match was another good match in helping us build for the season".
