- Alltheweb
- AlltheWeb enables users to search the web, news, or pictures. Advanced search options are fairly limited, but allow for domain, date and format limits.
- Altavista
- AltaVista enbales users to search the web, images, or news. Search features include: multimedia search, translation & language recognition, and comprehensive advanced search options.
- Bing
- Bing’s most prominent Advanced Search capabilities include a drop down menu for Boolean and phrase searching as well as a domain search and the related searches feature.
- Dogpile
- A metasearch engine including results from Google, Yahoo!, Bing and Ask. Search options include web, images, news, videos and more. Advanced seach options include Boolean and phrase searching and domain limits.
- Enables users to search the Web, Usenet, and images. In addition to full text of web pages in HTML, includes results in PDF, PostScript, and Microsoft Office formats. Advanced search options are comprehensive, including Boolean and phrase searching, and limits by domain, file type, language and date.
- Mamma
- Mamma.com is a metasearch engine — every time you type in a query Mamma simultaneously searches a variety of engines, directories, and deep content sites, properly formats the words and syntax for each, compiles their results in a virtual database, eliminates duplicates, and displays them in a uniform manner according to relevance.

- ipl2: information you can trust
- A result of a merger between the subject directories, Internet Public Library (IPL) and the Librarians' Internet Index (LII), its goal is to identify a balanced and broadly representative collection of websites for information, reference and research. The selected sites are evaluated and annotated by librarians and information science professionals.
- Infomine
- INFOMINE is a virtual library of Internet resources relevant to faculty, students, and research staff at the university level. It contains useful Internet resources such as databases, electronic journals, electronic books, bulletin boards, mailing lists, online library card catalogs, articles, directories of researchers, and many other types of information. INFOMINE is librarian built. Librarians from the University of California, Wake Forest University, California State University, the University of Detroit - Mercy, and other universities and colleges have contributed to building INFOMINE.
- Open Directory Project
- The Open Directory Project is a large, comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a community of volunteer editors.
