MANAGEMENT Career Summary Business Managers coordinate business activities in both private industry and public agencies. Specific duties for managers vary by degree of responsibilities and authority and according to the size of the business. They are responsible for the basic operation of the business which includes maintenance, purchasing supplies, and equipment. Creating a business plan, maintaining a budget, and organizing and directing the work of the employees are typical responsibilities of management. Office managers maintain an efficient flow of work, review production and ensure that deadlines are met. Office managers evaluate and revise office procedures, and train workers. Mid-level managers develop departmental plans, develop and maintain budgets, set goals and deadlines, and implement the goals set by top executives. They motivate, organize and direct their worker and must have knowledge of personnel administration and business administration. Chief executive officers are the highest level managers in a corporation and direct the overall activities of the organization which includes developing and administering policies to maximize profits. Levels of positions and responsibilities in management encompass a broad spectrum from entry-level management trainee positions to chief executive officers. A person’s education and experience may often determine the level of positions in management. Management Trainee positions are typically found finance, trade, manufacturing, and government agencies. Some employers may require previous experience and a college degree. Managers who demonstrate a capacity for professional development, academic attainment with advanced degrees, and leadership qualities may be considered for advancement. Promotions are competitive, often determined by job performance, leadership potential, and education. Program Description Programs
vary from one to two-year programs offered at community colleges and vocational
schools to Bachelor's and graduate degree programs at colleges and universities.
Shorter programs usually aim to train people for entry-level and
mid-level positions in a specific business or industry.
Internships and cooperative work experience are available through some
programs. Bachelor’s degree and
graduate degree programs provide study of basic business theories and
principles. Some programs provide a more concentrated study and emphasis on
specialization including human resources, marketing, business economics, and

Many schools offering a bachelor’s degree require students to complete
a number of college level courses and have obtained a specific GPA level.
Master’s programs are available for students with an undergraduate
degree and generally require applicant to take the Graduate Management Admission
