Math Skills Needed for Nursing Practice

Applicants to nursing programs frequently are concerned about math skills needed in nursing.  The actual skills needed to be a safe nurse are not highly advanced, but they do require common sense and a good foundation in mathematics and introductory algebra.  If you can perform the following operations/calculations, you should be able to successfully navigate the dosage class.  If not, it is suggested that you utilize the services of the Math Lab and/or purchase a basic review book.

1.  509 x 38.3

2.  Express 1500 / 240 as a decimal

3.  Express 0.8 as a fraction

4.  Express 0.004 as a percent

5.  Express 5% as a decimal

6.  8% of 50 =

7.  1 2/3 + 4 7/8 =

8.  300 / 150  x 2 =
