What is Jump Start?
Jump Start is an early college enrollment
opportunity, allowing high school juniors and seniors to take college
classes at Glendale Community College while still enrolled in high
school.

Who can attend the Jump Start program?
Any high school junior or senior who can benefit from advanced
scholastic or vocational work (a college degree applicable class). The
student must be making satisfactory progress towards a high school
diploma. The college may restrict admissions based on age, grade level
or assessment.

How does Jump Start help me?
Students who take Jump Start classes will get to
experience college while still in high school. Students have expresses
that they feel comfortable attending college after high school
graduation. Students benefit by getting ahead in college credits.

How much does Jump Start cost?
GCC waives the enrollment fees! Parking fees are
also waived if the student has a valid California driver's license.
Students will only pay the health services, student services, and
picture I.D. card fees, plus the cost of textbooks.

Will I get both high school and college credit with
Jump Start?
In the event that a student passes the college class, college
credit is granted. High school credit is determined by
your high school.

Do I need to be 18 to attend a community college?
If you have a high school diploma, you do not have to be 18 to go to
community college.

Where can I transfer to from a community college?
The college has "Transfer Agreements" with numerous universities. For a

How long does it take to transfer to a university?
It typically takes 2 years (60 units) as a fulltime student to transfer
to a university. Students can transfer to some private universities
after 1 year (30 units).

What is the difference between a community college and a university?
Community colleges are 2 year schools, which offer certificates and
associate degrees. Students also have the opportunity to transfer to a
university after community college and earn a bachelors degree.
Universities are 4 year schools which offer bachelor, master, and
doctorate degrees.

What is the attendance policy for college students?
Students are expected to attend all class meetings. If a student misses
the 1st week of classes, he/she will be dropped. If a student misses 2
weeks of class during a semester (Fall or Spring), the student will be
dropped. Please ask every professor about their attendance policy.
