This high resolution image is a composite from JPL's Magellan mission shown on our virtual dome software. Arin used it to map the orbit of Magellan around Venus.
The Magellan mission involved the production of radar images of Venus. The mission was terminated in 1994.
Arin's task required a lot of skill to get the spacecraft to look like it is orbiting the planet.
To start, Arin divided the orbit into small segments and then programmed the image of the spacecraft to move from one point to the next creating the illusion of a circular orbit around the planet.
The hardest part was getting the spacecraft to look like it is moving in a curved path.
From here, the spacecraft gets smaller and moves "behind" the planet.
