Do we send our SLO's to Alice?

This is not necessary.  You should tell me what you have done, and I will update you on the inventory.  However, if it is on the inventory, be prepared to show your SLOACs at any time.  For example, you may have to submit your SLO's to the Educational Master Plan, to Program Review, to accreditors, etc.  SLOACs are your work and are meant to support you and your students.  Keep them well-documented along with meetings and other discussion venues.

How many SLO's do we assess at once?

You and your colleagues can choose to focus on one or two SLO's per semester with a timeline for upcoming semesters and the additional SLO's.  Establish a cycle that you plan to follow.

Where do we write our SLO's?

Accreditation requires that all syllabi contain the SLO's.  SLO's are to be made public to all "stakeholders" (i.e. students, community, etc).  Right now, our Academic Senate is debating where we as a campus will officially house our SLO's.  Options include the course outlines, addendums to the course outlines, or within a software program.

Are exit standards the same as SLO's?

In many cases, they appear to be very similar and some divisions have simply re-named their exit standards as SLO's.  Still, there are other divisions who cannot simply replace their exit standards as they serve a separate purpose to them than SLO's.   Therefore, it is highly unlikely that the college will uniformly replace exit standards with SLO's on the course outlines.  Again, this issue is in the Senate.  To determine whether or not you can replace your exit standards with SLO's, use this SLO CHECKLIST.   And remember the rule of thumb: one SLO per one unit of instruction.

Where do we write up our "plan", the final stage of SLOACs?

Accreditation requires that our plans feed into a systematic, institutionalized, cyclical process that directs administrative decision-making in terms of facilities, budget, staff, etc.  Therefore, the planning team (Peggy, Jill, Ed, Carol, and I) are working together to create this process.  In the meantime, you may use this template to record your plan:  PLANNING TEMPLATE

What are we supposed to do next?

For Fall 2007, the SLO committee is asking that departments run the assessments on the SLO's they have chosen last Spring and to analyze the results.  For Winter 2008, we are asking that departments write their plans based on the SLOAC data.
