The Ten-Minute Play Festival

Please Read Carefully as there have been changes in the Ten-Minute Play Festival

changes have occurred at both the regional and national levels!

Student playwrights are invited to submit plays ranging in length from 4-10 minutes.   There is no restriction on subject matter, style, or intended audience. Six scripts will be selected by a panel of readers from outside our region.  The playwrights whose scripts have been selected for the Region VIII festival will be assigned a director, a dramaturg, and a group of actors.  These creative teams will work on the scripts throughout the KC/ACTF Regional Festival in Los Angeles, California, hosted by CSU Fullerton, from February 9 – 14, 2009.  The festival will culminate in a public, script-in-hand reading of the plays.

Any student enrolled in at least 6 units of credit at one of this region's colleges or universities is eligible.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR SCRIPT FOR CONSIDERATION:

Scripts may ONLY be submitted by email as a PDF file attachment or Microsoft Word (2000-2007) Document.  We prefer PDF because it proves easiest to open and read on any computer.

No DOCX or hard copies will be accepted this year.

Only ONE submission per playwright will be accepted (so send us your best!)

Your email must include a statement from you that indicates your willingness to attend all sessions of the Ten-Minute Play Festival at the Region VIII KC/ACTF Festival.

Your email must include your mailing address, telephone number, email address and university or college name.  We will use this information to contact the selected playwrights before, during, and after the semester break in December.   If you plan to spend the semester break at a different address, please give us that information as well.

Please scan your email for viruses prior to sending it.  Emails that have been detected to contain a virus will not be opened; and any script attached to that email will be considered ineligible for consideration unless resent in a “clean” email.

Remove your name and contact information from every page of the script.  This is a “blind” submission selection process, so we are making every effort to have the readers influenced only by the script – not the name or affiliation.  Your name will be recorded with the title of the script before it is sent to the readers.  Scripts that do include name and contact information will be considered ineligible for consideration

Please submit your script in Standard Submission Format.  Character names should be in all-caps and centered on the page with the dialogue on the following line and justified to the left margin.  Double space between one character’s speech and another character’s response.  Stage directions should be separated from character’s speech, placed in parenthesis, indented from the left margin, and preferably italicized.  Consult the “Dramatists Sourcebook” or any reputable playwriting textbook for more information.

Every effort will be made to handle submissions with care, however, neither KC/ACTF nor Region VIII will be responsible for misdirected or lost submissions.

After you submit your ten-minute play, within one week you should receive an email confirmation stating our receipt of your script.  If you do not receive confirmation, please contact Char Nelson.

Please send your scripts to char_nelson@byu.edu  Please use the subject line: Ten-Minute Play Submission.
