GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
BIOLOGY

The Biology major is designed for students with a broad interest in biology who desire to pursue careers in a wide range of biological and related fields. It provides excellent background preparation for postgraduate training in medicine and other health sciences, in tracks leading to academic and public service careers in biology, in biological industries, and even in nonbiological careers such as business, agriculture, and law. Emphasis is on breadth of training to expose students to all levels of modern biology. Many universities offer concentrations in an area of biology including Environmental, Cellular, Molecular, Marine etc. Foreign language may also be required for the major depending on the school. Because Biology is a popular major, most schools and colleges have special application deadlines or screening procedures. Below are some examples of the lower division courses required for the major.

Transfer students are strongly advised to complete as many preparatory courses as soon as possible for their major before enrolling at UC San Diego. Preparing well for the major helps students move efficiently toward graduation.
1.    Transfer students should have completed eight of the following courses  (or equivalent) at the time of transfer.
2.    A student's best six grades from the eight courses listed will be used to calculate a GPA which must be at least 2.5.
3.    Students must meet with a Division of Biological Sciences staff advisor during their first quarter at UCSD.
 4.    Any student who lacks the appropriate course(s) or GPA requirement will  have three-quarters in which to make up the deficiency.
5.    Students that do not meet these standards will be dropped from the major.
Students must still complete the full sequence of math, chemistry and physics including labs as shown below to complete the requirements for UCSD's Division of Biological Sciences.
