GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

The preparation for all the engineering majors being so extensive, most colleges and universities have modified general education patterns for these majors. In the last two years, most courses are in engineering, usually with a concentration in one branch. Concentrations at most schools include aerospace; chemical; civil; electrical; and mechanical. Because engineering is a popular major, most schools and colleges have special application deadlines or screening procedures. Below are some examples of the courses required for the major.

CSU Long Beach

CHEM 101, 102

CHEM 103 or BIOL 101H or 112

MATH 103, 104, 105
PHYS 101, 102

Cal Poly Pomona

MATH 103 and 104, 105, 108
CHEM 121
PHYS 101, 102, 103

UC Berkeley

A minimum overall grade-point average of 3.0 is required for admission consideration.
CHEM 101, 102

You may also satisfy this requirement with a score/grade of:  4 or higher on the AP Biology exam satisfies BIOL 101

BIOL 101
MATH 103,104, 105, 107 and 108
PHYS 101, 102, 103
ENGL 101

Chemical Engineering majors are encouraged to complete a course in computer programming for science or engineering students before transfer.

1) a minimum of 3 semester units of credit
2) instruction in computer programming (any computer language is acceptable)

UC Davis

IGETC:  The College of Engineering strongly discourages the use of  IGETC.  Although completing IGETC satisfies the campus' General Education Requirements, it does not always cover the full set of GE courses specified for the College of Engineering.  All students are required to complete two upper division GE courses on the Davis campus.

CHEM 101 and 102, 105 and 106
MATH 103,104, 105, 107, 108
PHYS 101, 102, 103

ENGL 101, 102

UC Los Angeles

A minimum UC-transferable cumulative GPA of 3.20 is required for consideration. While IGETC Certification is not recognized by HSSEAS, students may reference the IGETC course list to make their course selections.
MATH 103, 104, 105, 107, 108
CHEM 101 and 102

You should complete the entire Physics Series at one community college
PHYS 101, 102 and 103
CS/IS 130 or 135 or 150

NOTE: FORTRAN is preferred for this major.
ENGL 101 and 102 or 104
Listed below are additional degree requirements for this major that may be met with community college courses:
CHEM 105 and 106

UC Irvine

CS/IS 135
CHEM 101 and 102
CHEM 105 and 106
MATH 103 and 104 and 105 and 107, 108
PHYS 101 and 102

UC Riverside

Within the Chemical Engineering major, student choose from three options: Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Bioengineering.

The IGETC is not accepted for this major. BREADTH REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING listed on www.assist.org

CHEM 101 and 102

MATH 105, 108

Additional courses for the following options
BIO 101, 102 (for Bioengineering)

UC Santa Barbara

It is recommended that students focus on completing major preparation requirements.  If time permits, students may also take courses to fulfill either
UCSB General Education requirements or IGETC (Intersegmental General EducationTransfer Curriculum).

Students who will not complete IGETC prior to transfer
should refer to the College of Engineering General Education articulation agreement at www.assist.org.
