Major Requirements for
Transfer
Transfer Courses are designed to parallel lower-division classes
at four-year colleges and universities. Students may complete freshman and
sophomore requirements and transfer to the university with junior or upper
division status. Students entering college without sufficient background in
mathematics and English composition will need to start with prerequisite
courses. With careful planning, students may also complete graduation
requirements for the Associate in Arts degree (see graduation requirements) at
the same time that they are completing the Baccalaureate degree requirements.
It is strongly recommended that engineering majors complete the
major program, giving it priority over completion of general education
requirements. Please note that since the preparation for the
major is so extensive, most colleges and universities have modified general
education patterns for engineering majors.
A student may transfer a maximum of 70 units from a community college to
campuses of either the University of California or the California State
University systems. It is advised (and at some schools required) that
students transfer with at least 60 transferable units to ensure that they are
admitted to the four-year institution with junior or upper division status. Please
consult your counselor for screening and other specific academic information and
the Transfer Center for applications and deadlines.
Agreements concerning transferability are
constantly being updated; therefore, the student is cautioned to check with a
counselor or the Transfer Center for
exact transfer information.
